Fielders Meadow – update July 2019

The work in Fielders Meadow has started.  Fulham Football Club are completely aware of the concern that park users have about the trees and habitat in that area of the park.  However if you have any issues that you would like addressed please email:  chair.bishparkfriends@gmail.com

During the consultationThe Friends requested another gate opposite Ellerby to be installed  these should be open and operational now.  We have also requested a new dog water tap and path across the meadow for the winter season and to make the walk a circle as before.

The Friends are also keeping a weathered eye on any alterations to the planning application and are aware of the most current one:  2019/01880/VAR, if you have any particular issues we suggest that you complete the comment section by clicking this  Link.

URGENT: Fulham Football Club Planning Application

Last Chance to Have YOUR say by 18th March 2018!

Please take a moment to read this information regarding the proposed new stand and facilities. The closing date for objections has been extended to 18th March 2018 and should be addressed to Sian Brown, Planning Officer, at Sian.Brown@lbhf.gov.uk

reference: FFC Planning Application 2017/04662FUL.

    Things you need to know:

  • Fielders Meadow will be closed for TWO years for use as part of the building site.
  • Nothing to assure us of what the park will look like after it is handed back.
  • Likely substantial loss of amenity to Bishops park as turnstiles for the proposed new riverside stand will now be accessed from the park.
  • Proposed new stand will encroach 11 metres into the Thames which will affect wildlife and use of the river.

Annual General Meeting 2017

The Annual General Meeting of the Friends is due to be held on Thursday 19th October at St Ethrelda’s Church Hall, corner of Fulham Palace Road / Cloncurry Street. Doors open 7:30 p.m.

Our first guest speaker this year is: Peter Eversden, MBE, Chairman of The London Forum.

The London Forum represents the views and interests of amenity and civic societies in London and their members on issues that are important for the living and working environment of Londoners, particularly in the fields of Town Planning, Development Management, Heritage, Transport, Infrastructure, Waterways and Open Spaces.

Our second speaker is Seam O’Loughlin from Fulham Football Club who wills speak on their planning application for the Riverside Stand.

Green Flag Award

Congratulations are in order as Bishops Park wins Green Flag Award a for a second time.

For the second year running, Bishops Park has won the Green Flag Award for park quality. This award is judged on eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement. This is due in no small part to a number of dedicated people, including local residents ensuring standards are maintained, Quadron and Council workers who have all made a significant contributions to the retaining of the much sort after Green Flag Award.

Closure of Fielders Meadow

Update – Developments at FFC and use of Fielders Meadow

The Friends of Bishops Park have been having ongoing dialogue with H&F Council, Fulham Football Club (FFC) and the Church Commissioners about the development of the Riverside Stand and the partial use of Fielders Meadow for a two year period as a site to store materials etc. whilst this development takes place. There have been many questions around whether this is an appropriate use of the park, even for a temporary period.

Whilst many residents have expressed their concerns we have tried to have then addressed by the relevant parties and have sought assurances that any damage to the fabric of the park is dealt with once the works are completed. There are significant financial incentives attached to FFC leasing this part of the park which is separate to the S106 money attached the approved planning application.

“A row has broken out over the closure of a west London garden centre following its sale by one of the Prince of Wales’ charities.

The 30-year-old Fulham Garden Centre is set to close at the end of the month and is expected to be replaced by a pet supplies firm.

It is run by the youth charity Fairbridge, part of the Prince¹s Trust, which said it was leasing the site at a minimum of £75,000 a year to raise more funds.

Campaigners claim that the chief financial officer of the Prince¹s Trust, Amy Stirling, was appointed at the same time as she became a non-executive director of Pets at Home, the company tipped to take over the site. Residents fear it will build one of its warehouse-style stores and have appealed to Prince Charles to save the centre.

Pets at Home refused to comment but a source close to the company said it was not planning to construct a warehouse and that Ms Stirling had no involvement with negotiations over leasing the site.”

Annual General Meeting 2018

The AGM on 25th October was well attended, but numbers were lower than last year. There was lively discussion on the various issues affecting the park.

Our speaker, Colin Cooper of SWLEN spoke on the important place parks have in the general wellbeing of people and how friends groups can influence and connect with local authorities.

Chairman Amanda Lloyd Harris  stood down after 14 years at the helm; however she will still be around as one of the Councillors of the ward in which the park lies.

Melanie Healy and Rowena Vaughan were voted in as Co Chair.  All other positions remain the same.
